The Kinder-Winterzauber Erkenbertruine was conceived by the city of Frankenthal a few years ago as a family-friendly addition to the classic Christmas market on the town hall square. The Erkenbertruine, a historical sacral building from the 12th century, which has been preserved as a ruin after wartime destruction, offers a very atmospheric setting for the winter family zone.
Concept
The ruin is transformed into a winter wonderland with lighting, fir branches, and fairy lights. Several stations are set up inside and on the adjacent meadow where children can be active. Unlike the classic Christmas market, the focus is on participation, not consumption.
Stations
Among the main attractions are the ice stock sport lane with real ice stocks (lane with artificial ice), the snowboard simulator, where children can experience the feeling of a short board ride without risk, a large bouncy castle with a winter look, and a craft station with daily changing themes (stars, angels, lanterns, pine cone decorations).
Interactive Program
Additionally, there is a daily interactive program with reading hours, singing with the children's choir, small performances by local theater groups, and storytellers. Mulled wine, children's punch, and simple warm dishes are offered in a separate catering area.
Location
The Erkenbertruine is located near the town hall square and can be easily combined with a visit to the large Christmas market. Admission to the Erkenbertruine is free; individual activities such as ice stock sport or the snowboard simulator may incur a small fee.
