Traditional Medarduskirmes with the crowning of the Mehring Wine Queen from June 13th to 15th, 2026 at the Kulturzentrum Alte Schule
The Medarduskirmes is one of the most traditional folk and wine festivals on the Middle Moselle. It is named after Saint Medardus – a Frankish bishop from the 6th century, whose feast day is celebrated on June 8th and who is venerated in Catholic folk piety as the patron saint of farmers, brewers, and vintners, among others. In Mehring on the Moselle, this patron saint's day has evolved into a three-day Kirmes festival, which will take place from June 13th to 15th, 2026.
The venue is the Kulturzentrum Alte Schule in the village center – a revitalized former school building that now serves as a venue and meeting space. Around it, the classic Mehring Kirmes atmosphere unfolds with wine stands, food stalls, live music, and a family program. The actual highlight is the festive crowning of the Mehring Wine Queen, who subsequently serves as the official representative of Mehring's wines and their vintners – at wine fairs, festivals, and receptions in the region and beyond.
Mehring is one of the most important wine communities on the Middle Moselle and is located between Schweich and Leiwen on a distinctive Moselle loop. The Mehring vineyards yield high-quality Rieslings and, additionally, Burgundian varietals; the family businesses cultivate both traditional and innovative styles. The community is part of the Römische Weinstraße (Roman Wine Route), the tourism and wine association between Schweich and Mehring, which preserves the heritage of Roman wine culture (including the famous Roman wine mosaic culture).
The Medarduskirmes is family-friendly and admission is free. It attracts visitors from Trier, the surrounding Trier area, and from Luxembourg. Those who combine the Kirmes with a stay can also explore the Mehring Wine Trail and the vineyards.
The 2026 edition continues the proven format. The exact program and official crowning times will be announced in spring/early summer on mehring-mosel.de and visitmosel.de.
Due to the three-day format, a longer stay in the region is also worthwhile.
