Anniversary Fire Brigade Festival for the 150th Anniversary of the Volunteer Fire Brigade
The Volunteer Fire Brigade Förrenbach was founded in 1876 — a date that places Förrenbach in the first wave of Southern German volunteer fire brigade foundations, modeled after Württemberg and Baden. 150 years later, today's association, with numerous active members and a youth fire brigade, continues the tradition — and is celebrating its 150th anniversary with a grand festival weekend in 2026.
The anniversary festival runs from July 10th to 12th, 2026, on the festival grounds on the outskirts of town. Classic fire brigade festival concept:
The highlight is traditionally the parade on Sunday: Fire brigades from the surrounding districts of Happurg, Diepoltsdorf, Reichenschwand, as well as guest brigades from the entire Nürnberger Land district, march through Förrenbach in traditional attire, uniforms, and with historical vehicles. Traditional costume and music groups accompany the procession, showcasing the friendly ties between the brigades.
Förrenbach belongs to the municipality of Happurg in the Nürnberger Land district — a rural region east of Nuremberg, transitioning between Middle Franconia and the Hersbruck Switzerland. The municipality comprises 14 districts, each with its own identity and club life. The volunteer fire brigades of the individual districts play a central role as pillars of voluntary civic society.
150th-anniversary celebrations are special highlights in the Southern German fire brigade tradition. They combine the daily commitment of the members with the memory of the beginnings — when organized fire protection was still a social innovation of the 19th century. With its 150th anniversary, the FF Förrenbach joins a whole series of anniversary celebrations scheduled for Bavaria's festival calendar in 2026.
The 2026 edition is the grand anniversary festival — 150 years after its founding in 1876. Preparations have been underway since early 2026 (official announcement by the municipality of Happurg on January 28, 2026).
The detailed program — music groups, parade route, list of guest fire brigades — will be published closer to the date by the festival committee and the Nürnberger Land District Fire Brigade Association on happurg.de and on kfv-online.de.
Förrenbach can be reached via the A6 (exit Hersbruck/Sulzbach-Rosenberg) and the B14 eastbound. By train to Hersbruck (Nuremberg–Schwandorf line), then continue by bus or taxi to Förrenbach. Park & Ride at the festival grounds.
