Franconian Kirchweih in the upper Bibertgrund
The Kirchweih Dietenhofen, affectionately known as 'Kerwa' in Franconia, is the most important folk festival in the market town of Dietenhofen, located in the Middle Franconian district of Ansbach, Bavaria. For four days, the village community in the upper Bibertgrund celebrates vibrant traditions that connect generations.
Traditionally, the festivities begin with the beer tapping on Friday evening by the mayor in the festival tent. On Saturday, the village youth erect the decorated Kirchweih tree in front of the town hall – a central element of Franconian Kirchweih culture. Inside the festival tent, music bands provide the atmosphere, while amusement rides and stalls on the festival grounds offer family entertainment.
The highlight is the colourful Kirchweih parade on Sunday: local clubs and groups march with floats, traditional costumes, and music through the town centre, significantly contributing to the festive character of the Kerwa. The festival is accompanied by a special exhibition and a Kirchweih market.
The Kirchweih Dietenhofen exemplifies the vibrant Franconian festival culture and serves as a social meeting point for the entire Middle Franconia region.
