Theatre, music, and Palatinate wine in the former Mattern winery, parallel to the Haardter Weinfest
The Kulturweinfest in Matterns Park is a Palatinate peculiarity: While the large festival mile of the Haardter Weinfest lines the Mandelring street, the Hambach Theatre and Cultural Promotion Association (THUK) creates a quieter, culturally ambitious alternative a few hundred metres away in the historic Matterns Park — the garden of the former Mattern winery at Mandelring 38.
The 2026 edition runs parallel to the Haardter Weinfest from Friday, May 8th to Thursday, May 14th. The festival concept combines Palatinate wine culture with an art program: Live music acts, theatre performances, and small performances alternate on several days, with time in between for enjoying wine ('Schoppen') and communal dining in the park.
Special attention is paid to the children's and family program: Children's theatre is offered on several festival days, and on Sunday and Thursday (Ascension Day), a creative workshop for children takes place from 1 PM to 4 PM — a welcome addition to the classic wine festival activities.
The culinary offering differs from standard wine festival catering: In addition to Palatinate classics, a deliberately wide range of vegetarian and vegan dishes is served — a hallmark of THUK's committed concept. The wines come from Haardter wineries and are enjoyed in a relaxed park atmosphere.
The Matterns Park location is a small Palatinate sight: The former Mattern winery with its old trees and historic substance offers a unique ambiance that perfectly frames the mix of culture and wine enjoyment. Unlike the bustling street wine festival, guests here can sit, follow the program, and enjoy the Palatinate spring evenings.
The 2026 Kulturweinfest runs parallel to the 71st edition of the Haardter Weinfest from May 8th to 14th. A green festival oasis with a cultural program is created in Matterns Park — a deliberate alternative to a pure street wine festival.
The exact program for 2026 will be published by the organizer in spring. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years: daily opening in the late afternoon until evening, evening live program on several festival days (music and theatre alternating), special family program on Sundays and Thursdays (Ascension Day) with a creative workshop from 1 PM to 4 PM.
