Walddorfhäslach in the Schönbuch Foothills

Walddorfhäslach is a municipality with around 5,500 inhabitants in the Reutlingen district (state of Baden-Württemberg) — located on the western edge of the Schönbuch, one of the largest contiguous forest areas in central Swabia, between Reutlingen and Tübingen. The municipality consists of the two formerly independent villages of Walddorf and Häslach, which merged in 1971. The village festival takes place in the center of Walddorf at Molkereiplatz and along Hauptstraße.

Organizers: Municipality and Associations

The village festival is organized by the Walddorfhäslach Municipal Administration in cooperation with local associations. As with most Swabian village festivals, associations, sports clubs, the fire department, the music association, and the church community take turns providing catering, stage presentations, and family activities.

Program and Atmosphere

The program follows the tried-and-tested Swabian village festival format:

• Live music with regional bands, music associations, and cover artists
• Catering with Swabian specialties: Maultaschen, Bratwurst, Schnitzel, cakes in the afternoon
• Württemberg wine and draft beer
• Family program: face painting, bouncy castle, hands-on activities by the associations
• Musical performances by the youth band and the main band of Walddorfhäslach

The Dorffest Walddorfhäslach is one of many similar summer and village festivals in the Reutlingen-Tübingen region — from Reutlingen-Mittelstadt to Bondorf and Pliezhausen to Schlaitdorf — which follow each other in July and August. The municipalities in the Reutlingen festival calendar (compiled by the local newspaper GEA) thus offer a dense network of regional community festivals throughout the summer weeks.
