Christmas market in the baroque park of the historic Neuhaus Palace with a large illuminated star
If you are looking for an extraordinary historical complex in Paderborn, you cannot miss Schloß Neuhaus. The four-winged moated castle in the Schloß Neuhaus district (in the northwest of Paderborn, in the Paderborn district) is one of Westphalia's most important Renaissance and Baroque palace complexes. Built from the 16th century onwards as the residence of the Prince-Bishops of Paderborn, it was expanded several times in the 17th and 18th centuries. Today it houses a music school, restaurant, and cultural spaces. The adjacent baroque park with water features, hedges, and symmetrical design provides the ideal Advent backdrop.
The Christmas Magic 2026 runs for three days:
This compact three-day structure is the hallmark of the Christmas Magic format — unlike the multi-week city center markets, the Schloßpark focuses on an intense Advent weekend. Those who miss the market will have to wait until next year.
Around 30 to 40 stalls with individual Advent decorations are set up in the market area of the baroque park. The exhibitors are curated, and the assortment is predominantly handcrafted:
A visual hallmark is the large illuminated star hanging over the Schloßpark. This illuminated star acts as a central anchor — visible from various points in the park, it shapes the evening atmosphere. In combination with the lighting of the individual stalls, the fairy lights on the trees, and the atmospheric illumination of the palace, it creates an extraordinary light installation within the baroque setting.
The gastronomic offerings follow classic Advent themes: mulled wine in several varieties (red, white, punch, non-alcoholic), waffles with cream and syrup, gingerbread, and stollen. In addition, bratwurst, potato pancakes, and soups — the classic Advent market fare. Tables and standing tables are spread throughout the park, allowing families to sit down for a break.
Schloß Neuhaus is not only the name of the palace but also the name of a district of Paderborn. The Paderborn district, with around 25,000 inhabitants, is located in the northwest of the city, on the Lippe and Alme rivers. A historically independent settlement that was incorporated into Paderborn in 1975. The district has its own identity, its own shopping street, and its own festival traditions — in addition to the Christmas Magic, there is the Landpartie festival in summer (palace concerts, open-air program in the Schloßpark), beer festivals at the palace, and other events.
Admission to the Christmas Magic is free. This decision by the City of Paderborn makes the market an accessible, intergenerational Advent experience. Families from Paderborn, the Paderborn district, and eastern Ostwestfalen-Lippe use the event as a family Advent outing — shopping for gifts, drinking mulled wine, strolling through the enchanted park, without an entrance fee.
The Christmas Magic in the Schloßpark is not the only Paderborn Advent market. The city has several:
The Schloßpark market positions itself as a premium Advent alternative to the classic city center format — with a curated assortment, an extraordinary backdrop, and a concentrated three-day choreography.
The 2026 edition continues the proven three-day format of the Christmas Magic. The extraordinary backdrop of the baroque park around the historic Schloß Neuhaus, the curated assortment of the approximately 30–40 stalls, and the large illuminated star as a visual anchor make the market one of the most extraordinary Advent experiences in Ostwestfalen. With mulled wine, waffles, gingerbread, and classic Advent atmosphere, the first Advent weekend becomes a concentrated family Advent experience.
Admission to the Christmas Magic is free. Stalls, food, and drinks on site are subject to charge.
