The Franconian Garden and Culture Festival on the Whitsun weekend around the Renaissance complex in Ebern
Anyone spending the Whitsun weekend in Franconia can hardly miss the Gartenfest Schloss Eyrichshof. Since 2004, the Renaissance castle of the von Rotenhan family in Ebern, Lower Franconia (Haßberge district), has become the venue for one of the largest and most stylish garden events in Southern Germany for three days. In 2026, the festival will celebrate its 21st edition — the date: May 23 to 25, 2026.
What distinguishes the Gartenfest from a usual garden fair is the selection of exhibitors. Over 130 stands are spread across the entire castle grounds — from the castle courtyard and meadows down to the park. The spectrum ranges from perennial nurseries and tool manufacturers to fashion, jewelry, accessories, art, and home accessories. There is also a culinary area with Franconian specialties, wine, coffee, and sweet temptations.
The Gartenfest explicitly sees itself as an event for the whole family. For children, there is a ghost hunt through the castle grounds, joint crafting, a scavenger hunt across the area, a nostalgic carousel, and the children's mini-express. New in 2026: a workshop with clay paints for young artists.
Live music accompanies the events on all three days — from acoustic soloists to bands. The supporting program includes lectures on garden and lifestyle topics as well as guided tours of the castle and park, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the Renaissance complex.
Schloss Eyrichshof has belonged to the von Rotenhan family since the 16th century and is one of the most important Renaissance castles in Lower Franconia. It is located on the edge of the Haßberge hills, nestled in a landscape of forests, meadows, and small valleys. The combination of historic architecture, a well-maintained park, and a curated market offering is the real appeal of this festival.
The 21st edition of the Gartenfest Schloss Eyrichshof will take place on the Whitsun weekend from May 23 to 25, 2026. For over two decades, the festival has been a staple of the Franconian Whitsun weekend, attracting around 23,000 visitors to the Haßberg district each year.
