Grand Old Town Festival in the medieval half-timbered old town of Ebern — Live music, artists' market, and cabaret, "Franconia's biggest class reunion"
Ebern is a small town in the district of Haßberge in the Bavarian administrative region of Lower Franconia, idyllically situated in the Baunachtal valley. Its well-preserved medieval old town with town walls, towers, and half-timbered houses forms the backdrop for the Eberner Altstadtfest, one of the largest and most popular town festivals in the region.
Over the years, the Altstadtfest has earned the affectionate nickname "Franconia's biggest class reunion": Many former residents of Ebern, who have moved all over the world, return to their hometown this weekend. Thus, the festival combines the atmosphere of a town festival with a grand reunion — generations meet in the market square.
The market square features party music, while the alleys and courtyards offer entertainment on changing stages. Highlights include the artists' market in the hall of the Raiffeisen-Volksbank (Sunday), live bands on Sunday and Monday mornings, a performance by the music school, and a children's flea market by the town wall. There is also cabaret and "a little something different" at special venues in the historic old town.
Ebern's clubs and restaurateurs provide the food: Franconian bratwurst, regional specialties, beer, and wine. The historic half-timbered facades, towers, and town walls create a unique atmosphere — a festival celebrating the identity of the Haßberge town. Dogs are welcome, and admission is free.
Ebern is located on the edge of the Haßberge Nature Park, a wooded hilly landscape in northern Lower Franconia. The Altstadtfest is an expression of the town's vibrant club and civic culture and a tourist attraction for the entire region between Bamberg and Coburg.
The Altstadtfest 2026 is scheduled by the town of Ebern for the weekend of July 25 to 27, 2026; festivities begin on Friday evening from 6:00 PM, with the festival running late into the night (Sundays until approx. 11:45 PM). On the market square and in the alleys of the medieval old town, there will be live music, an artists' market, cabaret, a children's flea market, and stands from Ebern's clubs. Free admission, dogs welcome.
