Festival weekend of the Volunteer Fire Brigade Plaue (District of Brandenburg an der Havel): Gala evening, historical firefighting drill, and rescue demonstration
The Volunteer Fire Brigade Plaue was founded on February 3rd, 1886 — in 2026, it looks back on 140 years of voluntary fire protection. Plaue, now a district of the city of Brandenburg an der Havel, with its long history as an old parish community on the Havel River, is a typical example of the traditional volunteer fire brigade culture in the state of Brandenburg.
The anniversary weekend begins with a closed gala evening for members, supporters, and invited guests on Friday, May 8th. It serves as the formal setting to honor the association, acknowledge the presence of Mayor Daniel Keip, and recognize 140 years of voluntary service.
Saturday, May 9th, is the public festival day — from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM at the fire station Görneweg 11. The program is tightly scheduled: At 1:00 PM, the live fat fire demonstration (a classic teaching moment for fire prevention in the kitchen), from 2:00 PM onwards, the vehicle and archive exhibition with children's activities, at 3:00 PM the historical firefighting drill with old equipment and methods, and at 4:00 PM the technical rescue demonstration following a simulated traffic accident.
The festival is explicitly open to residents from Plaue, neighboring Brandenburg an der Havel, and the entire Potsdam-Mittelmark district. Food and drinks are organized by the fire brigade and local associations. Admission is free.
Plaue is a district of the independent city of Brandenburg an der Havel (approx. 72,000 inhabitants) and is located on the Plauer See — the westernmost of the Brandenburg Havel lakes. The fire station's appearance is characterized by red brick walls and the distinctive hose tower — typical of a Brandenburg fire brigade from the Wilhelminian era.
The 2026 edition marks the 140th anniversary of the Volunteer Fire Brigade Plaue. Mayor Daniel Keip will be present at the gala evening and the public festival day. The detailed hourly program on Saturday provides a vivid picture of firefighting work — past and present.
The demonstrations (fat fire, historical firefighting drill, technical rescue) are intended as educational presentations for the public. They combine fire safety education with a clear presentation of the association's work.
Free admission on the public festival day. Food and drinks at standard festival prices.
