Cross-border German-Polish Pride between Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice — Saturday, May 30, 2026
Frankfurt (Oder) is located directly on the German-Polish border, separated by the Oder River from Słubice, Poland — historically a single city, divided since 1945 by the border of peace. Thousands of students, professionals, and residents commute daily across the city bridge. The European University Viadrina and Collegium Polonicum embody the German-Polish interconnectedness. The Frankfurt (Oder)–Słubice Pride is the queer response to this special location: a cross-border Pride demonstration that consciously uses both cities as its stage.
The motto "Grenzen trennen — Prides verbinden" ("Borders divide — Prides unite") summarizes the political objective. In Poland, the legal situation for queer people has historically been significantly more difficult under conservative governments than in Germany — the cross-border demonstration is lived solidarity. In addition to the demonstration procession, the organizers are arranging panel discussions with politicians from both sides who advocate for queer rights. Mentoring programs for queer youth and sensitization workshops are also part of the extended Pride program.
After the demonstration procession, a festival will take place: colorful outfits, banners, live music, performances, community stands from counseling centers, queer associations, and initiatives from Brandenburg and Poland. The atmosphere is described by the organizers as "peaceful yet powerful." Several hundred participants come together annually — residents of Frankfurt, Słubice, students from Viadrina, activists from Berlin, Brandenburg, and all of Poland.
The Pride stands out from other CSDs (Christopher Street Days) in Germany due to its transnational dimension. It is embedded in a long history of queer engagement on the German-Polish border — small initiatives, big bridges. Anyone looking for a Pride event with special political substance and who is interested in the crossover of German-Polish activism will find it here. Frankfurt (Oder) is easily reachable by train from Berlin in about an hour — a day trip away from the hustle and bustle of Berlin's CSD, right in the middle of what Pride was everywhere once: a political assembly with a festive character.
Pride 2026 takes place on May 30 — as in previous years, a deliberately cross-border event. The demonstration procession starts in Frankfurt (Oder) (exact starting point will be communicated on social media), crosses the city bridge and proceeds through Słubice, before the festival begins in one of the central squares. The Pride is accompanied by a pre- and fringe program with panel discussions, mentoring sessions, and cultural events in the days before and after.
