Two-day traditional market with flea market, livestock market, festival tent, and amusement rides
Pattensen, a district of Winsen on the Geestrand, boasts a long market tradition. The Herbstmarkt builds on the history of traditional livestock and farmers' markets that organized trade between town and country in the villages of the Lüneburger Heide for centuries. Today, the market has evolved into an experience market with a festive character.
The market area extends across the village square and Schulstraße in Pattensen. This central market zone will have traffic calming measures and be divided into different themed areas for the weekend: flea market stalls, livestock market area, amusement rides, festival tent with catering, and pony attractions. The spatial separation provides orientation and allows visitors to target their favorite areas.
Two special program elements make the market unique. The flea market, with private and commercial vendors, spans several hundred stalls and is a mecca for bargain hunters and collectors. The livestock market area harks back to the original function of such markets: small animals like chickens, rabbits, and ornamental birds are presented and traded here. Pony rides for children complement the animal section.
The festival tent offers catering, live music, and dance evenings. Carousels, chain carousels, bumper cars, and children's rides add classic Kirmes elements to the market, appealing particularly to families. The combination of market and Kirmes is typical for North German country markets and attracts a broad audience.
In 2026, the date falls on October 3rd and 4th – Saturday is also German Unity Day, which increases visitor numbers. Situated between the Harvest Festival (Erntedankfest) and Halloween, the market coincides with the autumnal change of mood and offers a final open-air festival opportunity before the winter break.
The 2026 edition continues the tradition, combining market elements with Kirmes attractions. This mix is typical for North German country markets and distinguishes the Pattensen market from pure flea markets or Kirmes events.
The exact times for the stage program and market opening will be published in September 2026.
