Open Studios Day in the German-Polish Twin City of Frankfurt (Oder)/Słubice
The Open Studios Day is a nationwide format: Once a year, artists open their workspaces and allow visitors a direct glimpse into the creative process. Brandenburg organizes its version centrally through the 'Offene Ateliers Brandenburg' initiative, in which several cities and districts participate.
Frankfurt (Oder) and Słubice participate in this initiative with a special bonus: They are a cross-border twin city with a German-Polish art scene. The Open Studios connect venues on both sides of the Oder into a route — a unique constellation in Germany.
On the weekend of May 2nd to 3rd, 2026, 35 artists will open their studios, group exhibitions, and galleries:
The opening will take place on Saturday, May 2nd, at 1:30 PM at the Haus der Künste (Lindenstraße 4-7). The Haus der Künste is one of Frankfurt's most important cultural centers and home to the Cultural Office, which coordinates the event.
The 2026 program covers an unusually broad spectrum:
The special feature of the Frankfurt Open Studios: Artists present themselves not in a neutral gallery setting, but in their own workspace. You can see sketches, works in progress, material storage, and literally trace the creative process.
What makes the Frankfurt event special is its German-Polish format: Several studios are located in Słubice, the Polish sister city just across the Oder bridge. Most Frankfurt artists collaborate with Polish colleagues or maintain close ties with the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań — the Open Studios make these connections visible.
The 2026 Open Studios will open their doors on the weekend of May 2nd and 3rd, 2026, in both halves of the twin city Frankfurt (Oder)/Słubice. 35 artists are participating with 8 private studios, 2 group exhibitions, and 3 galleries. Genres include painting, sculpture, textile art, and sound art.
Official opening: Saturday, May 2nd, at 1:30 PM at Haus der Künste, Lindenstraße 4-7. The event is part of the statewide 'Offene Ateliers Brandenburg' initiative and is coordinated by the Frankfurt (Oder) Cultural Office.
Frankfurt (Oder) is located 90 km east of Berlin. Take the RE1 train from Berlin Hauptbahnhof (Central Station) for a 70-minute journey. From the station to Haus der Künste (Lindenstraße 4-7) is a 10-minute walk. Słubice can be reached via the city bridge, a 5-minute walk from the German bank.
Admission to all studios, galleries, and group exhibitions is free.
