Traditional festival on the Bornufer since the 14th century
Anyone traveling along the Havel river in summer should have the Plauer Fischerjakobi on their radar. Documented since the 14th century, the festival is considered one of Brandenburg's oldest continuously maintained traditional festivals. It is dedicated to Saint James, the patron saint of fishermen — reflecting the centuries-old importance of Havel fishing for the region.
The 2026 edition runs from Sunday, July 26th, to Tuesday, July 28th, 2026, in the Plaue district of the city of Brandenburg an der Havel. The main venue is the stage at Bornufer directly on the Havel — the waterside setting adds to the festival's special charm. Thousands of visitors from the region come to the Havel riverbank every year, many by their own boat.
Three days of stage program: Live concerts featuring Schlager, pop, rock, and folk music, dance shows by local clubs, sports demonstrations from fishing clubs to karate clubs. Highlights include the festive parade through Plaue, the Havel boat parade with decorated boats, and the traditional fireworks display over the Havel on Saturday evening. Additionally, a long food and market mile offering fish specialties, bratwurst, fries, drinks, and classic fairground attractions.
Plaue became a district of Brandenburg an der Havel in 1952 — previously an independent small town with its own castle, church, and a tradition as a Havel port. Today, Plaue is the western gateway to the city of Brandenburg and the venue for the Fischerjakobi. Visitors can combine attending the festival with a stroll through the historic town center, a visit to the Church of Peace, or a boat trip to Plaue Castle.
The independent city of Brandenburg an der Havel gives its name to the entire federal state. With three historic town centers, its unique location on the Havel river, and a dense sequence of summer festivals (Havelfest, Fête de la Musique, Fischerjakobi, Pottery Market), it is an underestimated travel destination between Berlin and Magdeburg. The RE1 train connects it hourly to Berlin in 50 minutes.
The detailed daily program will be published by the City of Brandenburg an der Havel on stadt-brandenburg.de and erlebnis-brandon.de shortly before the festival. The structure follows recent editions:
Train: RE1 from Berlin Hauptbahnhof to Brandenburg-Plaue (approx. 1:05 h) — Plaue station is located directly in the festival area. By car: A2 exit Brandenburg-Plaue, parking spaces are signposted. By boat: Moorings at Bornufer.
Admission to the festival grounds is free. Concerts on the weekend are ticket-free. Food and fairground attractions at market prices.
Don't miss the fireworks display on Saturday evening — best views from Bornufer and the Bockwindmühle (post mill). If arriving by your own boat: secure a mooring early.
