The Karlsberg Braunacht is the beer festival of the Homburg-based traditional brewery and, at the same time, the kick-off of a six-city tour through Saarland and the Palatinate. On the Historischer Marktplatz (Historic Market Square) in Homburg, a long night begins on April 25, 2026, with the keg tapping ceremony at 4 PM, spreading to nine city center pubs and the Alte Schlosserei (Old Forge) of the brewery at 8 PM. Three specially brewed specialty beers — Zwickel, Nachtschicht, and Kirschbier — are up for public vote.

The Karlsberg Braunacht 2026 kicks off on April 25th on the Historischer Marktplatz Homburg with keg tapping at 4 PM, a live concert by RoastBeat, three limited specialty beers, and continues in nine participating pubs and the Alte Schlosserei.

The Karlsberg brewery has announced the Braunacht 2026 for Saturday, April 25, 2026. As usual, Homburg, the brewery's hometown, will host the start of the six-date Saarland-Palatinate tour.

Three limited beers are up for choice this year: the unfiltered Karlsberg Zwickel (5.2%), the dark Karlsberg Nachtschicht (4.5%) with caramel notes and caffeine, and the red Karlsberg Kirschbier (3.1%). Via QR codes in the participating pubs, guests will vote on which of these three beers will be added to the Karlsberg range.

Getting There

Homburg is in the Saarpfalz district and is located about 30 km east of Saarbrücken. Take the S-Bahn S1 or the RE1 from Saarbrücken main station (approx. 25 min). Homburg station is a 10-minute walk from the market square. By car, take the A6 (Homburg exit) or A8 (Homburg-Bruchhof exit).

Market square is freely accessible. A specialty beer glass with the first fill costs approx. €4–5. Participation in brewery tours is subject to a fee.

Karlsberg — Saarland Brewery Tradition Since 1878

With an annual production of around 1.3 million hectoliters, the Karlsberg brewery in Homburg is one of the largest independent private breweries in Germany and the most important industrial company in the Saarpfalz district. It was out of this tradition that the Braunacht was created in 2017: a beer festival that celebrates the connection between the brewery and its hometown.

Three Beers, One Public Vote

The concept is unusual: Karlsberg brews three limited specialty beers for each Braunacht season, which are only served on that particular weekend. In 2026, these are:

Karlsberg Zwickel (5.2% ABV) — unfiltered lager with fruity-herbal notes
Karlsberg Nachtschicht (4.5% ABV) — dark beer with caramel notes and added caffeine
Karlsberg Kirschbier (3.1% ABV) — bright red sour cherry beer

Guests vote via QR code in each pub to decide which of the three specialty beers will be added to the permanent product range. A charming democratization of the brewing decision.

Keg Tapping, RoastBeat, and Market Square Stage

The event kicks off at 4 PM with the keg tapping ceremony by the mayor and the brewery board on the Historischer Marktplatz. A stage will be set up, the Saarbrücken band RoastBeat will perform live sets in the afternoon, and pretzels and hearty snacks will be served. The market square remains the center of activity until 8 PM, after which the crowd disperses to nine participating pubs around the market square and the Alte Schlosserei.

Southwest Germany's Largest Beer Dispensing System

According to the brewery, the Alte Schlosserei on the Karlsberg brewery grounds in Homburg-Schwarzenacker houses "Southwest Germany's largest beer dispensing system" with 20 taps. During the Braunacht, it opens for the festival evening, complemented by live music and brewery tours.
