Distributed Bock Beer Pub Crawl in Homburg City Centre — 10 Venues Tap Karlsberg Bock Beer Simultaneously
Bock beer festivals have a long tradition in Bavaria and Franconia, but were less common in Saarland. Karlsberg, the traditional Saarland brewery based in Homburg, changed that. In 2023, the company brought the Bocknacht to Homburg, with an unusual format: instead of a central festival tent, the evening is spread across ten venues in the city centre.
At precisely 7:00 PM, all participating pubs, bistros, and bars simultaneously tap the fresh Karlsberg Bockbier (6.6% ABV, stronger and maltier than classic Pilsner). Those wandering through the city centre can move from venue to venue, experience different atmospheres, and enjoy the same beer at each. A kind of pub crawl with a common theme — and a selection of venues covering the entire spectrum of Homburg's gastronomy.
For the Bocknacht, Karlsberg exclusively opens the brewery's Alte Schlosserei — a historic industrial building not usually open to the public. In this industrial-chic setting, Bock beer specialities are served, and short brewery tours are offered. Those who want to combine industrial romance with beer culture shouldn't miss this stop.
Karlsberg CEO Christian Weber described the Bocknacht as a "new tradition in Homburg". The distributed format offers several advantages: (1) Revitalisation of the city centre instead of concentration in a festival tent; (2) Variety of atmospheres — Irish pub, burger joint, wine bistro, modern standing bar; (3) Lower entry barrier — no tickets, no reservations, just walk in. The city of Homburg views the Bocknacht favourably accordingly.
In 2024, the Bocknacht took place on November 9th; in 2025, it will be on November 8th. The exact date for 2026 is not yet official at the time of publication — but based on experience, it will be the second weekend in November. Current information is available on karlsberg.de and in the Homburg press.
Karlsberg has been in Homburg since 1878 and shapes the cityscape to this day — Karlsberg beer is the undisputed number one in the Saarpfalz region. The Bocknacht joins major events like the Karlsberg Braunacht (with three specialty beers) and reflects an active, modern brewery communication strategy.
The Bocknacht has established itself in its first editions in 2023, 2024, and 2025 as an unusual, distributed beer festival format. In 2026, the Karlsberg Brewery is expected to stick to the concept — featuring the classic Karlsberg Bockbier (6.6% ABV) and the traditional participation of around ten city centre venues.
The exact date and list of venues for 2026 will be announced by the Karlsberg Brewery in autumn.

You can manage 4–5 venues during the Bocknacht. Start early (tapping at 7 PM), drink moderately, and eat in between so the Bock beer doesn't overwhelm you (6.6% ABV is not Pilsner!).
Visit early — access is usually limited, and long queues are possible later in the evening.
Hotels in Homburg (Mercure, Hotel Schweizerstuben, Hotel Stadt Homburg). If you don't want to drive, it's best to plan an overnight stay in the city centre — all venues are within walking distance.
