Anniversary Festival of the Döhlau and Görau Volunteer Fire Brigade in Upper Franconia
The Döhlau-Görau Volunteer Fire Brigade was founded in 1886 and is one of the oldest associations in the market town of Weidenberg. Döhlau and Görau are two small districts of Weidenberg on the eastern edge of the Franconian Switzerland, about 15 kilometers east of Bayreuth. The brigade serves both villages and is one of the central pillars of community life.
Saturday evening will be the festive evening with music, a ceremonial speech, honors for deserving members, and festival beer in the marquee. Performance by one or more brass or dance bands from the region. The active members of the brigade and guests from neighboring brigades in the Bayreuth district will gather on the festival grounds.
Sunday will feature the actual festival day with a celebratory church service, a parade of participating brigades and associations through Döhlau, a reception for distinguished guests, and a festive conclusion in the marquee with brass music.
The market town of Weidenberg officially lists the Döhlau Fire Brigade Festival as "140 Years FFW Döhlau-Görau" on May 30/31, 2026. The festival is embedded in Weidenberg's busy festival calendar, between the Walburgismarkt in May, Kellernacht and Bürgerfest in July, Kirchweih Michaeli in September, and Andreasmarkt in Advent — as well as the numerous local Kirchweih festivals, including one in Döhlau in late summer.
The catering and festival venue is the grounds of the "Frohsinn Döhlau" citizens' association, which is traditionally also used for the Döhlau Kirchweih and other village festivals. A classic Upper Franconian association ground with a festival meadow, catering house, and a small stage.
The event calendar of the market town of Weidenberg lists the festival as "140 Years FFW Döhlau-Görau" with the following key dates: Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 5 PM, Sunday, May 31, 2026, from 6 PM. Festival grounds: Frohsinn area in Döhlau, a district of Weidenberg.
The detailed program (festival band, speakers, order of honors, participating brigades) will be communicated by the brigade's festival committee in the weeks leading up to the event (Weidenberg newsletter, notices in Döhlau). As a rule, Saturday serves as the festive evening with catering and a festival band, and Sunday as the festival day with a celebratory church service, a parade of participating brigades, and a relaxed festive conclusion.
Specific program details will be announced by the FFW Döhlau-Görau and the market town of Weidenberg before the event.
