Three-day Volksfest (popular festival) of the Barum Shooting Club with live concerts, carousels, and a family atmosphere
The Schieß-Club Barum e.V. is the central organizer of the shooting club tradition in Barum. Unlike classic shooting fraternities and guilds, the term 'Schieß-Club' indicates a more sporting focus – competitive shooting with small-caliber and air rifles is paramount. Nevertheless, the club upholds the Schützenfest tradition and hosts its three-day summer festival annually in early July. By scaling it as a Volksfest, the event attracts guests from far beyond the club's membership, positioning itself as one of the largest summer festivals in the municipality of Bardowick, alongside traditional Schützenfeste.
The Schützenfest Barum differs from many smaller Schützenfeste due to its extensive music program. Bands perform in the marquee on all three evenings – from rock cover bands and Schlager groups to DJ sets. The larger marquee can accommodate several hundred guests. During the day, there is also live music on the outdoor stage, as well as numerous carousels and amusement rides for all ages – Ferris wheel, swing boat, shooting galleries, lottery stalls, children's carousels. This mix of Schützenfest and funfair attracts thousands of visitors annually.
The King's Shoot remains the sporting centerpiece. Shooters determine their new monarchs on the shooting range – the King, Queen, and Youth King. The King's Proclamation on the festival evening is the emotional highlight for the winners and their families. The shooting club tradition is accompanied by the parade on festival Sunday, which winds through the streets of Barum and is attended by friendly shooting clubs.
Barum is located north of Lüneburg and belongs to the municipality of Bardowick. With Saal am See as a central venue for other summer festivals, active club life, and the Schieß-Club Barum as a major Volksfest organizer, the community maintains a vibrant social profile.
The three-day structure allows the Schieß-Club to offer a more intensive program than most regional club festivals. Each evening features a unique music program in the marquee, while daytime alternates between shooting club events and family activities. The exact band names for 2026 will be published by the Schieß-Club approximately four weeks before the festival.
The detailed program for 2026 will be published by the Schieß-Club in advance. The structure follows the proven highlights of previous years:
