A Century of Fire Brigade Tradition
The Primsweiler fire district of the Schmelz Volunteer Fire Brigade is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2026. The FFW Primsweiler thus joins the long line of Saarland fire brigades founded in the 1920s – a time when civil protection was systematically established in the rural communities of the Saar. The jubilee will be marked with a ceremony on the evening of Friday, May 22, 2026, at the Primsweiler sports field.
From Ceremony to Kirmes
A special feature of the Primsweiler jubilee celebration: it is organically integrated with the traditional Kirmes Primsweiler. From May 23rd to 25th, 2026, the three-day village festival, jointly organized by SC Primsweiler (Sports Club), FFW LBZ Primsweiler, and SFV Primsweiler, follows directly after the jubilee ceremony. This creates a four-day program that involves the entire village community.
Schmelz – A Village in the Prims Valley
Schmelz is a municipality with around 16,000 inhabitants in the Saarlouis district, located in the picturesque Primstal valley near Lebach. Primsweiler is one of its districts and lies directly on the Prims river. The area is scenically attractive and characterized by forests, meadows, and small water mills – hiking tourists will find a dense network of trails here.
Ceremony and Kirmes as a Saarland Concept
In Saarland, fire brigade anniversaries are traditionally celebrated with a two-stage concept: first, the official ceremony with guests of honor from politics, administration, and friendly brigades, followed by the public village festival with catering, music, and amusement rides. The Primsweiler celebration in 2026 follows this exact pattern.
Club Life at the Center
The FFW LBZ Primsweiler is not only an operational unit but also an important pillar of village community life. Together with SC Primsweiler and SFV Primsweiler, it forms the backbone of club culture in the district. The 100th anniversary is therefore also a joint celebration for all Primsweiler clubs.
