Six Decades of Youth Work in the Bohnental
In 2026, the Jugendfeuerwehr Limbach (Youth Fire Brigade) celebrates its 60th anniversary. It is supported by the Löschbezirk Limbach (Firefighting District Limbach) of the Volunteer Fire Brigade Schmelz in the Landkreis Saarlouis (Saarlouis District). Limbach is located in the picturesque Bohnental — a side valley of the Saar river — and the district boasts a strong club culture organized around the volunteer fire brigade. The Jugendfeuerwehr was founded in 1966, making it one of the oldest youth fire brigades in Saarland.
What a Jugendfeuerwehr Does
The Jugendfeuerwehr is the junior organization of the Volunteer Fire Brigade. Children and young people between the ages of 10 and 17 are introduced to firefighting work here: technical training, fire safety education, joint exercises, but also sports, competitions, camping trips, and social activities. The future active duty firefighters are recruited from the Jugendfeuerwehr.
Ceremony and Festival Weekend
The anniversary celebration will take place over two days — Saturday and Sunday — in the Talbachhalle Limbach. Expected highlights include:

Getting There
Schmelz-Limbach is located in the Bohnental, about 25 km north of Saarlouis. By car, take the A8 motorway, exit Lebach, then follow the L160 to Schmelz and continue to Limbach. Public transport connections are challenging — Schmelz station has limited service, and there's a bus line from Lebach station.
