Traditional village fair ten days after Corpus Christi
Anyone who wants to experience the feeling of Saarland's club life should visit the Gresaubacher Kirmes. In this district of Lebach with 1,300 inhabitants, several clubs work together on organization and execution: The support association of SC Gresaubach, the motorcycle club Haseooge Gresaubach-Schmelz, the fruit and gardening association Gresaubach, and Café L'Orange drive the logistics forward. The volunteer fire brigade, the German Red Cross, the Harmony music association, and the DLRG local group Gresaubach contribute to the festival days with a procession, a morning pint (Frühschoppen), and security services.
The date follows an old tradition: ten days after Corpus Christi — meaning exactly the weekend after the second Sunday in June. In 2026, this falls on Friday, June 12th to Monday, June 15th. The mayor of Lebach confirmed the return to the usual calendar in 2025, after several years in which the date had to be postponed due to construction work and pandemic consequences.
The centerpiece is the festival tent on Gresaubach's central village square. From Friday to Monday, cover bands, DJs, dance groups, and on Sunday, the Harmony music association take turns performing. Compared to commercial folk festivals, the festival tent is small and manageable — and that's precisely its charm. Everyone knows everyone here, people speak Saarland dialect, and Karlsberg beer is drunk.
The highlight is the Kirmes Sunday with a high mass in the Catholic parish church, followed by a procession through the village, a morning pint with the music association, and lunch. In the afternoon, there's a family program and children's activities, and in the evening, the festival tent fills up for a dance night.
Gresaubach is located at the transition between the Köllertal and the Schaumberger Land, on the edge of the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park. Hiking trails to the Schaumberg (568 m, the "Holy Mountain" of Saarland), to the Litermont, or into the Lebach forest are only a few minutes away by car. A good Kirmes weekend here can be combined with hikes, an excursion to Saarlouis, or a visit to the Schaumberg observation tower.
Mayor Fred Metschberger confirmed the return to the usual Kirmes date in 2025. The fourth day (Monday) has always been family day. Organization by the SC Gresaubach support association, MC Haseooge, OGV Gresaubach, and Café L'Orange.
