Since 2025, the Old Freight Canteen of the former Tegel Airport in the northwest of Berlin opens its doors on the first Advent weekend for a small, cozy winter market. Live program on stage, gift stalls, Advent gastronomy, and the unusual charm of experiencing the landmark building of the disused airport from the inside — a new format for the Tegel district in Reinickendorf, financed by entrance donations.

The format was first tested in 2025 — opening edition on November 29/30, 2025. A repeat in 2026 is still under discussion according to the organizer and Berlin.de as of early 2026. Once confirmed, the date and opening hours will be announced on berlin.de and via local Reinickendorf media.

Winter Market in the Historic Freight Building

From 1948 to 2020, Tegel Airport was one of Berlin's central airports — built during the airlift, expanded during the division, and for a long time the main airport for West Berlin and later for all of Berlin. Since its final closure in 2020, the area is being redeveloped into "Berlin TXL — The Urban Tech Republic," a research and industrial park. Until this major project is completed, individual buildings are being used temporarily — including the Old Freight Canteen, a long, functional building at the former freight handling area.

What the Market Offers
