Four weeks of fun with over 80 rides at the Zentraler Festplatz Berlin
For decades, the Zentraler Festplatz on Kurt-Schumacher-Damm in the Reinickendorf district has been Berlin's most important fairground. With almost 200,000 square meters, it offers space for the largest rides that mobile construction allows. Unlike the smaller district fairs or the Berlin Christmas markets, everything here is a notch bigger: the Ferris wheel can be seen for miles, the Break Dance makes the ground vibrate, and the Hyper-X-Swing hurls daredevils up to 70 meters high.
The fairground hosts three fairs per year: Spring Fair starting in early April, Summer Fair starting at the end of June, and Autumn Fair starting at the end of September. The Herbst-Rummel is the last of the year and traditionally runs for four weeks, from the end of September to the end of October. For families from Reinickendorf, Spandau, and nearby Brandenburg, it is one of the most important autumn outing destinations.
Classics include Anubis (a looping roller coaster with an Egyptian theme), Break Dance (rotation on three axes), Pacific Rim (wave flyer), Hyper X (maxi swing), Spinning Coaster, bumper cars, haunted house, and several carousels. In addition, there are stalls for shooting games, almond roasters, crêpes, bratwurst, Lángos, cotton candy, and candied almonds. Admission is free, rides mostly between 3 and 7 Euros per person.
It's no coincidence that Berlin's largest fairground is located in the northern district of Reinickendorf; it's a tradition. The site was established in 1996 after the closure of the Kurt-Schumacher barracks and is Berlin's answer to Munich's Theresienwiese or Hamburg's Heiligengeistfeld. However, getting there by public transport is less convenient than the proximity of the Berliner Wiesn or a classic Stadtfest (city festival) – bus 123 is the most reliable way to get there.
The Herbst-Rummel is expected to open from late afternoon, earlier on weekends. Exact opening hours will be communicated on the Zentraler Festplatz website before the festival begins.
