Wildpark Schwarzach — Animal and Nature Park in the Odenwald

The Wildpark Schwarzach is a 100,000 m² animal and nature park in the municipality of Schwarzach in the Neckar-Odenwald district (AGS 08225) — southeast of Heidelberg and north of Heilbronn. Over 400 animals from native wildlife and exotic species live in species-appropriate enclosures: deer, wild boars, wolves, lynxes, wisents, as well as exotic birds and smaller mammals. The park is barrier-free and has a petting zoo, a demonstration farm, and an Africa playground with climbing structures.

Family Day May 3, 2026 — Season Opening

The Family Day on the first weekend of May 2026 marks the park's season opening — the animals have emerged from their winter rest, spring blossoms are in bloom, and the weather allows for the first longer stays outdoors. From 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., the park becomes a meeting point for families from the Odenwald, Neckartal, and the Heilbronn-Heidelberg region.

Market Stalls and Program

For the Family Day, market stalls will be open around the park and in the entrance areas:

• Regional Products — Farmhouse cheese, sausage, honey, preserves from the Odenwald
• Arts and Crafts — Wood carvings, ceramics, jewelry
• Catering — Bratwurst, fries, coffee and cake, vegetarian options
• Children's Activities — Face painting, craft activities, animal presentations, petting zoo
• Animal Encounters — Keeper talks about specific animal species

Spring Wildlife Experience

In mid-May, many animals are particularly active: fawn and young deer can often be seen, wild boar piglets frolic in their enclosure, and birds of prey are active during the breeding season. Those visiting with children have a rare opportunity to observe young animals in almost natural living conditions.

Neckar-Odenwald District as a Region

The Wildpark is located in the Neckar-Odenwald district — a region that connects the transitional landscape from the Odenwald through the Neckartal to the Bauland. Known for its forests, small castles, the medieval town of Mosbach, and short distances to nature reserves. The Wildpark is a family-friendly hub for day trips from Heidelberg, Heilbronn, or Würzburg.

Getting There

By car via the B 27 (Heidelberg–Mosbach) or the A 6 (Walldorf/Heidelberg–Heilbronn). Parking is signposted directly on Wildparkstraße. By train to Mosbach-Neckarelz, then take a bus (line 7045/7050) to Schwarzach.
