Advent Magic in the Animal Park
Wildpark Schwarzach is located in the municipality of Schwarzach in the Neckar-Odenwald district, in the so-called Kleiner Odenwald. On 100,000 square meters of naturalistic enclosures, over 400 wild and domestic animals from 50+ species live—zebras, wild boar, deer, fallow deer, donkeys, goats, sheep, chickens, peacocks, parrots, and geese. The annual Advent Magic weekend shifts the usual wildlife park experience into a particularly atmospheric setting: on Sunday, November 29, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the park transforms into an advent wonderland.
Illumination and Twilight Atmosphere
The main attraction is the atmosphere. The Schwarzach winter event perfectly suits the Advent season: candles and lanterns flicker by the enclosures, fir branches adorn the wooden fences, and the park's low wooden buildings are subtly illuminated. As twilight sets in from 4:00 PM, the magic intensifies. The animals react surprisingly calmly to the change—many visitors report that the animals appear different in the lantern light than on a sunny summer afternoon.
Stalls with Handcrafted Advent Products
In the entrance area and along the main paths, there are around 15 to 20 stalls—manageable but charming. They offer advent handcrafted products (wood carvings from the Odenwald, candles, advent decorations, craft supplies), regional products (Odenwald honey, Black Forest ham, game meat), and culinary stalls with bratwurst, roasted chestnuts, candied almonds, and gingerbread. The Wildpark restaurant serves mulled wine, punch, coffee, and advent pastries at reasonable prices.
Family Program
Families are the focus. Several show areas offer programming: fairy tale storytelling by the petting zoo, children's crafts (felting, pinecone decorations), and a small stage with advent songs performed by kindergarten children from Schwarzach. The Schwarzach Mortar Bell—nearly 10 tons and 2.50 meters high, the largest bell in Southern Germany—stands directly in front of the park entrance and is a popular photo subject during Advent. A miniature train runs through the park, and the petting zoo and Africa playground are open.
Getting There and Admission
Wildpark Schwarzach is located directly in the town; it's about a 20-minute drive from Mosbach (Neckar-Odenwald district). If arriving by train, it's recommended to take the ticket to Aglasterhausen or Mosbach and then transfer to a bus. Admission to the wildlife park applies to the Advent Magic day as well as regular opening hours: Adults €11, Children aged 4–14 €7, Family ticket €30. Open until 5:00 PM—after which the park closes and the animals retreat.
