45th City Festival on Ascension Weekend in the Four-Castle Town on the Neckar
Eberbach am Neckar, with its four medieval castles above the river, is one of the oldest and most beautiful urban settings in the Rhein-Neckar district. When the Eberbacher Frühling begins on Ascension weekend — May 15th to 17th, 2026 —, the city festival takes over the entire old town: Market Square, Kellereistraße, Friedrichstraße, and Neckarpromenade. It is the 45th edition of a tradition that has been running as a city festival since the early 1980s.
The musical program is the hallmark: over 25 live performances over three days, spread across several stages in the old town. The stylistic range extends from folk music and folk to jazz, swing, funk, and soul, all the way to rock and pop. Local and regional bands, occasionally national acts, perform in the afternoon and evening. The stages are so close to each other that strolling from one to the next is part of the festival experience.
For the youngest guests, there are clowning performances, interactive stations, a face-painting booth, and craft activities on the squares. Particularly popular is the children's flea market on Saturday, May 16th, 2026 — exclusively by and for children and young people, with stalls of 3 meters in length (spots are usually booked up quickly).
On Sunday, May 17th, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 4:30 PM, the traditional Eberbach bicycle flea market takes place at Kellereistraße 23 — one of the largest used bike exchanges in the region between the Neckar Valley and the Odenwald. In parallel, the shops in the old town open their doors for the Sunday shopping event.
Eberbach is part of the Rhein-Neckar district and is located at the transition between the Neckar Valley and the Odenwald, about 33 kilometers upstream from Heidelberg. The town with nearly 15,000 inhabitants was a Staufen imperial city in the Middle Ages — the four castles above the town are a reminder of that era. Those visiting the Eberbacher Frühling should plan a walk up to the Mittelburg ruins or Eberbach Castle: the view over the spring old town in festive mode is legendary. Baden-Württemberg, Rhein-Neckar district, Four-Castle Town — the city festival is one of the highlights of the entire region.
The 45th edition of the Eberbacher Frühling will take place from May 15th to 17th, 2026. The organizer is the City of Eberbach — Tourism & City Marketing — together with the associations, shops, and restaurateurs of the old town. For three days, the entire medieval city center will become a festival stage, from Friedrichstraße via the Market Square to the Neckar riverbank.
The concept: an open city festival with no admission fee, featuring high-quality live music on multiple stages and a dense family program. Over 25 concerts are spread across the three days; the stylistic spectrum from folk music to rock makes the Eberbacher Frühling attractive across generations.
Admission to the city festival and all concerts is free. Food and drinks are paid for individually at the stands of associations and restaurateurs. Stand rental fees apply for vendors at the bicycle flea market; visitors pay no admission.
By train: S-Bahn S 1 / S 2 from Heidelberg and Mannheim directly to Eberbach (final stop or through station, approx. 35 minutes from Heidelberg). By car via the B 37 along the Neckar or via the A 5 (Heidelberg exit) and B 37. Parking available at the train station, festival grounds, and in the old town parking garages.
Friday, May 15th, 2026: from late afternoon with opening. Saturday, May 16th, 2026: from midday until late evening. Sunday, May 17th, 2026: from morning until evening, with Sunday shopping and bicycle flea market from 11:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
Admission to the city festival is free. Food, drinks, and stage consumption are paid for individually.
