Court Church of the Dukes of Mecklenburg-Strelitz
The Johanniterkirche Mirow on the castle island is the former court church and burial site of the Dukes of Mecklenburg-Strelitz. With its baroque interior, the ancestral tomb beneath the altar area, and a historic organ, it forms an exceptional acoustic space directly on Lake Mirow. The church is located in close proximity to the castle and is part of the unique castle ensemble in the Mecklenburg Lake District.
Wednesdays from June to September
The Summer Concerts have been a regular series for many years and are a fixed date every Wednesday at 7:30 PM for many summer holidaymakers in the Mecklenburg Lake District. The program alternates between organ solo concerts, chamber music, sacred and secular music, and crossover programs. Admission is free; a collection at the exit contributes to the financing of the church music.
Artists and Programs 2026
The 2026 season brings together an unusually wide range of artists: accordion with Martha Kloss ("From Musette to Klezmer"), organ improvisation with Joachim Thoms, baroque cello with Ludwig Frankmar, horn quartet Auram, saxophone-organ duo with Takamizo/Yamauchi, guitar solo with Stefan Grasse, children's summer concert with the Rostock Children's Choir, and the group Falmar with guitar and accordion to conclude the season. A total of around 14 concerts between early June and early September.
Combination with Castle and Town
Visitors to the Summer Concerts often combine them with a visit to the Castle Museum (open until 6 PM), a walk across the castle island, or a boat trip on Lake Mirow. The season overlaps with the Castle Festival, the "Art at the Castle" craft market (August), and the "Schloss Mirow Klassik" concert series.
Getting There
By regional train from Berlin or Rostock via Neustrelitz to Mirow. By car, take the A19 / A20. The Johanniterkirche is located on the castle island, within walking distance of the train station.
