Piano with a Sea View

The Piano Days Kühlungsborn are the spring piano festival of the Kunsthalle Kühlungsborn. They open the season's program at the Kunsthalle and deliberately position themselves broadly in terms of style: classical repertoire, jazz piano, and boogie-woogie are equally represented.

Format

Top pianists perform in solo, duo, or trio formations on several evenings. The Piano Days are primarily known for the regular performances by Axel Zwingenberger, one of Europe's most important boogie-woogie pianists, who has established the concert series »Axel Zwingenberger presents Boogie Woogie Greats« in Kühlungsborn. Evening concerts start at 8:00 PM, matinees at 4:00 PM.

Hall

The hall of the Kunsthalle Kühlungsborn seats around one hundred guests and is located directly on the Baltic Sea promenade. Piano festivals of this size are rare outside of major cities — Kühlungsborn consistently uses its hall as a small, very personal concert venue.

Local Context

Kühlungsborn is located in the Rostock district and, with over three kilometers of beach promenade, is the largest Baltic Sea resort in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Alongside Jazz Meeting, World Music Days, and Chamber Music Days, the Piano Days are among the pillars of the Kunsthalle's program.
