From May 23 to 25, 2026, the German Steam Locomotive Museum will transform into a steam-filled festival ground on the Whitsun weekend, open daily from 10 AM to 5 PM. The highlight will be the special train rides with the historic steam locomotive 50 3616 over the famous Schiefe Ebene between Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg and Marktschorgast. On the grounds, visitors can expect a packed program of miniature railway rides, trolleys, cab rides, and more.

Getting There
The DDM is located at Birkenstraße 5 in Neuenmarkt in the Kulmbach district and is accessible via Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg station as well as by road.
Admission
Museum admission: Adults €9.00, Children/Youth (6–16 years) €7.00, Families €17.00. Special train rides over the Schiefe Ebene are charged separately.

Steam on the Schiefe Ebene
The Whitsun Steam Days take place at the German Steam Locomotive Museum (DDM) in Neuenmarkt, a municipality in the Kulmbach district in Bavaria. The museum is located at the foot of the Schiefe Ebene (Steep Slope), one of Germany's steepest main railway lines, which was opened in 1848 as a pioneering feat of railway construction.
Special Trips with the 50 3616
The centerpiece of the festival is the special train trips with the historic steam locomotive 50 3616. It pulls its carriages up the Schiefe Ebene from Neuenmarkt-Wirsberg to Marktschorgast and back – an impressive experience of technology and railway history.
Program on the Museum Grounds
On the grounds, there are rides on the miniature steam railway and hand-pumped trolleys, cab rides on the diesel locomotive, demonstrations of the DEMAG steam crane, a tender locomotive exhibition in the coal yard, and tours of the 'General' salon coach. A model railway market, demonstrations, a children's area with games, and the 'Kohlenhof-Prinzessinnen' complete the program.
