The Fränkischer Kinosommer has been a firm summer institution in Upper Franconia for over two decades. From June to September, the open-air cinema travels through various towns and villages in the region. One of the most beautiful venues is the festival grounds at Goldbergsee in Marktschorgast, in the district of Kulmbach – an idyllic spot where film art and natural scenery come together.

Program and Atmosphere

Current box office hits and audience favorites are shown on several consecutive evenings. Admission begins in the early evening, and the film starts at nightfall. Radio Plassenburg provides the fitting pre-show entertainment, and food and drinks are available on site. Screenings take place even in the rain – only official severe weather warnings lead to cancellation.

Low Admission Thanks to Sponsors

Thanks to local sponsors, admission remains deliberately low at just five euros per person, making the Kinosommer accessible to everyone. Tickets are available at the box office on the day of the event.

Marktschorgast and the Goldbergsee

The market town of Marktschorgast is located in the Upper Franconian district of Kulmbach, at the transition between the Fichtelgebirge and Frankenwald. The Goldbergsee with its festival grounds offers the ideal backdrop for balmy summer cinema evenings.
