About Winzerfest

For six days, the Westerland promenade on Sylt transforms into an open-air wine festival. Over twenty vintners from Pfalz, Mosel, Rheinhessen, Baden, plus guests from South Tyrol, Italy, and Tenerife set up their stalls north of Strandstraße, pouring their wines and sharing stories from their vineyards. Accompanied by Flammkuchen, grilled salmon, fried fish, and live music at the Musikmuschel. Entry is free with a valid Sylt guest card – the Winzerfest is a firm fixture in Sylt's summer calendar.

A Wine Festival with a Sea View

Westerland is the largest town on Sylt in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, in the district of Nordfriesland. The promenade is one of the most frequented promenades in Germany. It is precisely here that the Sylt Tourismus-Service GmbH (ISTS) hosts the Westerländer Winzerfest every year in early July: a long, six-day wine open-air event that opens the island up culinarily during peak season.

More Than Twenty Vintners

Around twenty wineries present their wines directly at their stands – from Emil Bauer from Pfalz to the organic winery Hubertushof on the Mosel, to Kiefer from Baden, plus several from Rheinhessen and international guests from Italy and even Tenerife. You walk from stand to stand, get a pour, taste, compare – a true wine tasting festival, not an elitist, high-priced salon.

What You Eat

  • Flammkuchen from Pfalz
  • Grilled salmon from an open fire
  • Scampi and fried fish
  • Specialty sausages and cheese from regional producers

Music and Atmosphere

Live music plays daily in the Musikmuschel on the promenade – mostly acoustic, swing, light pop. The audience mixes: regular Sylt guests, island residents, day-trippers. Anyone who combines wine and the promenade comes to the Winzerfest – free entry with Sylt guest card, tasting sips included.
