Werdau — Town in the Pleißenland

Werdau is a traditional town in the Zwickau district, located in the Pleißenland region between Zwickau and Plauen. The classic city festival, which used to take place in the city centre for years, was redeveloped a few years ago: Instead of an elaborate city festival, the city administration now organises a three-day folk festival with a focus on folk festival character — showmen, stage, festival tent, family activities.

Festival Mile on the Market Square

The historic market square of Werdau forms the centre of the folk festival. Showmen set up carousels, shooting galleries, and a festival tent. The festival stage presents a varied programme: regional clubs, choirs, and dance groups during the day, national cover bands and solo artists in the evening. Classic folk festival beer from the region (Werdau is located in the West Saxon beer region) and Saxon specialities complete the gastronomic offer.

Identification with the Town

Since its introduction, the new format has quickly developed into a new, popular folk entertainment in the town. Citizens and visitors from the entire Zwickau district use the weekend to liven up Werdau's city centre — and the city administration sees the format as an important contribution to identification with the place. Club life and showmen's offerings combine to create a classic Saxon folk festival with a modern stage presence.

Family Offerings and Culinary Delights

The family programme dominates during the day: children's rides, bouncy castles, club stands with hands-on activities. In the evening, the stage programme takes over. Gastronomically, the offer ranges from classic folk festival sausages to regional specialities such as Saxon Sauerbraten and modern street food options.
