A Church with Musical History

The St. Barbara Church in Lichtentanne (Zwickau district) is a remarkable building: A church was built on this site in the 12th century, consecrated in its current form in 1628. It served as the main church of Lichtentanne until 1907, but then fell into disrepair. A comprehensive restoration was completed in 2001 – since then, it has served as a cultural centre with a year-round concert programme.

Concerts in an Extraordinary Setting

The combination of a medieval church interior and modern music has gained the cultural centre supra-regional attention. Bands and solo artists from folk, rock, singer-songwriter, and blues appreciate the special acoustics of the high church walls. In autumn 2026, the following will perform, among others:

Lichtentanne in the Zwickau District

Lichtentanne is a rural municipality a few kilometres west of Zwickau. The St. Barbara Church is located in the district of Stenn, near Hauptstraße 30. Visitors attending a concert can combine the evening with a visit to Zwickau (Robert Schumann Birthplace, St. Mary's Town Church) – a West Saxon mini-tour with cultural aspirations.
