Classic Sylt village festival by the pond with LIONS duck race and model boats
The Wenningstedt Dorfteichfest has been held on the last Saturday of July for 46 years—a remarkable continuity that makes the festival a firm anchor in Sylt's event calendar. Unlike the major Sylt events (Westerland Festival, Harley Meet, Reisen-und-Bühne Concerts), the Dorfteichfest has an unmistakably village character: small-scale, family-friendly, with a peculiar mix of local Sylt pride and tourist friendliness.
The venue is the area between the Dorfteich—the geographical center of Wenningstedt—and the Denghoog, a Stone Age tomb over 5,000 years old with an entrance in the town center. Both locations are connected by footpath via Friesenstraße. The Sölring Museen, which manages the Denghoog, will be present during the festival and invites visitors to explore the underground tomb—an archaeological highlight of European significance.
The festival runs from 2 PM to midnight and is divided into an afternoon and evening phase:
Wenningstedt-Braderup is a municipality in the North Frisia district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, located on the island of Sylt north of Westerland. The village has around 1,500 inhabitants and is one of the island's main centers, alongside Westerland and List. It is characterized by a mix of traditional Sylt thatched-roof architecture and modern wellness tourism. The Dorfteichfest underscores the village roots that the place has preserved despite tourism.
The 2026 edition is confirmed on sylt.de and the Sölring Museen website. As every year, the festival falls on the last Saturday of July—a date that has been unchanged for decades.
The organizers are the municipality of Wenningstedt-Braderup, together with the Sölring Museen (for the Denghoog participation) and the Lions-Club Sylt (for the traditional duck race).
