Four days of wine, enjoyment, and summer flair between the Hercules and Mercury Fountains on Maximilianstraße
The Weinstraße Augsburg is a young but rapidly growing city festival. In 2026, it will celebrate its third edition — and the concept has been established from the start: For four days, Maximilianstraße, the historic main axis of Augsburg's old town between the Hercules Fountain and the Mercury Fountain, transforms into a continuous wine mile. Maximilianstraße is also called the "Kaisermeile" (Emperor's Mile) due to its Renaissance patrician houses and its former importance for emperors and imperial diets.
At more than 30 wine and gourmet stands, vintners, wine dealers, and gastronomic providers present their assortments. The focus is on light summer wines — Pinot Blanc, Silvaner, Rosé, Sekt — alongside regional specialties and well-known classics from German and international growing regions. The wine selection is complemented by suitable snacks: tapas, cheese platters, Franconian and Bavarian specialties, pasta, vegetarian options.
Those who want to drink can get an official deposit glass at the Hercules or Mercury Fountain: 10 Euros deposit, of which 5 Euros will be refunded upon undamaged return — the glass itself is a souvenir. The system is now standard at many German wine festivals and ensures a clean, low-waste city center.
The Weinstraße is part of the Augsburger Stadtsommer (Augsburg City Summer), an event series organized by the City of Augsburg, which combines various open-air cultural formats in the old town squares from June to September. An acoustic stage provides musical accompaniment throughout the festival days — from singer-songwriter sets and jazz trios to Latin acts. The motto for 2026: "Enjoy diversity with all senses".
The Weinstraße is produced by the Augsburg-based agency pro air Medienagentur GmbH, whose managing director Fabian Lohr is already responsible for other city festivals such as the Fuggerstadt Classic. The City of Augsburg is involved via Augsburg Marketing, as the festival is part of the City Summer program.
With a good 300,000 inhabitants, Augsburg is the third-largest city in Bavaria and the capital of the Swabia administrative region. In the 16th century, it was one of the wealthiest and most important trading cities in Europe — the Fuggers, Welsers, and Hauptmann families resided here. Maximilianstraße was laid out by the patricians as a representative residential and commercial mile and is considered one of the most beautiful Renaissance streets in Germany today. UNESCO World Heritage: The Augsburg Water Management System and the Golden Hall area.
The third edition of the Augsburg Wine Mile builds on the successful premieres of 2024 and 2025. Maximilianstraße will be transformed into a continuous wine mile from Thursday afternoon to Sunday evening. Over 30 stands will offer white, rosé, and sparkling wines — from Baden Riesling to Franconian wines and Italian classics — as well as matching culinary accompaniments and a multi-part live music program on the city center stage.
The event is part of the Augsburg City Summer 2026, the city's open-air summer program between June and September.
