Classic Car Sport Against a Historic Backdrop
The Fuggerstadt Classic is one of the best-known one-day classic car rallies in Germany. Since its first edition in 2014, the event has gathered around a hundred classic vehicles in Augsburg's city center every autumn. Maximilianstraße – one of Southern Germany's most impressive boulevards with its Renaissance facades and fountains – is closed exclusively for the classic cars for the day and hosts the parc fermé, start, and finish. The tour begins and ends in front of the Hotel Maximilian's.
Route and Competition
The rally covers approximately 170 to 180 kilometers through the autumnal Bavarian-Swabia. The route is planned with great attention to detail, deliberately using small, sometimes rarely used roads that lead through romantic towns and charming landscapes of the region. A maximum of around one hundred vehicles are permitted. It is not a speed race, but a regularity and navigation drive for historic automobiles, focusing on elegance and driving culture.
Schedule of the Race Day
The day begins early in the morning with the arrival and lining up of the vehicles on Maximilianstraße. Around mid-morning, the starting signal is given, and the cars leave the city individually towards the surrounding area. In the afternoon, the participants return one by one, before the "Augsburger Eleganzen" (Augsburg Elegance) award is presented in the late afternoon. The day concludes with a gala dinner and awards ceremony for the rally participants.
More Than Just Motorsport
The Fuggerstadt Classic combines classic car sport with cultural aspirations and social commitment: the event is climate-neutral and supports Augsburg aid organizations. It is increasingly accompanied by the VOLT E-Rally, which showcases electric vehicles and modern mobility. The event is free for the public and offers a rare glimpse into over a hundred years of automotive history right in the heart of Augsburg's old town.
Augsburg as the Venue
Augsburg, one of Germany's oldest cities and home of the Fugger family, offers a unique stage with its Maximilianstraße. A visit to the Fuggerstadt Classic can be well combined with a stroll through Augsburg's World Heritage ensemble of historic water management systems, a walk to the Fuggerei, or a stop in the old town's alleys.
