Industrial Hall Meets Winery
The Stahlwerk Düsseldorf on Ronsdorfer Straße is actually known for concerts and electronic parties — a converted industrial hall with raw walls, high ceilings, and the unmistakable charm of Düsseldorf's industrial past. It is precisely in this hall that over 25 wineries from Germany and neighboring countries showcase their best every year for a weekend.
Sparkling, Loud, and Wild — The Concept
The subtitle says it all: The wine festival aims to be sparkling (effervescent Cuvées, Crémants, natural wines), loud (DJ sets, no classic piano accompaniment), and wild (unconventional wines, biodynamics, orange wines). The range extends from dry Riesling to experimental Pet Nat.
Culinary Delights with Three Pillars
Food is a central part of the concept. Three pillars define the gastronomic offerings:
- Spanish Tapas — small bites, ideal for multi-course tastings
- BBQ — smokers and grills with pulled pork, grilled vegetables, steaks
- Cheese Specialties — curated selection from affineurs and dairies, perfect for wine pairings
Indoor and Outdoor
The festival utilizes both areas of the Stahlwerk: the acoustically vibrant hall indoors for the central wine stands, and an outdoor area (courtyard) with a lounge atmosphere, more wine stands, and BBQ. This allows you to switch between industrial rawness and a relaxed summer terrace.
Düsseldorf-Lierenfeld — Where Creative Industries Meet Industry
The district of Lierenfeld in the Düsseldorf-Stadtmitte/Süd borough is one of Düsseldorf's most exciting transformation zones: old industries are being repurposed, clubs, galleries, and lofts have moved in. The Stahlwerk is a flagship of this movement, and the wine festival is part of its identity as a place where different scenes — wine, music, industrial culture — come together.
In the Heart of the Rhineland
As the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia, Düsseldorf is the hub for Rhineland culinary traditions. With Altbier breweries, Michelin-starred restaurants, and an active wine trade scene, the city has long attracted wine lovers. The Wine Festival at Stahlwerk has a unique character that deliberately sets it apart from classic Rhine wine festivals.
