Advent on the Middle Moselle

Advent is a special time in the Moselle Valley. Numerous communities organize their own, often very compact, Christmas and mulled wine festivals, offering an intimate, village-like alternative to the major markets in Trier, Bernkastel-Kues, or Traben-Trarbach. The Glühweinfest in Rachtig is one of these smaller events with its very own atmosphere.

Wine and Advent Spirit

On the weekend of December 12th and 13th, 2026, the center of Rachtig transforms into an Advent festival zone. Mulled wine made from regional Rieslings, Federweißer (still available in rare cases), hot apple wine, and punch will be served, complemented by bratwurst, potato pancakes, gingerbread, roasted almonds, and other Christmas specialties.

Associations and Winegrowers at the Center

The Glühweinfest is organized by the local associations and winegrowers. Unlike commercial Christmas markets, a portion of the proceeds goes directly to local associations – the music club, sports club, kindergarten, and similar organizations. The festival thus not only strengthens the village community but also brings visitors from the surrounding area into the village center.

A Complement to the Large Moselle Christmas Markets

Anyone planning a visit to the Middle Moselle in December can easily combine the Glühweinfest in Rachtig with the Christmas market in Bernkastel-Kues and the Moselle Wine Night Market in Traben-Trarbach. The three events complement each other in format and atmosphere, allowing for a packed Advent program on the Moselle.
