Three-day wine festival in the historic old town — on the second weekend of June
For decades, the Wine Festival in Alt-Lauda has been one of the most important meeting points for wine and wine festival enthusiasts from the entire Tauber Valley. The venue is the historic old town of Lauda, the main town of the twin city Lauda-Königshofen in the Main-Tauber district. Every year on the second weekend of June, a three-day wine festival atmosphere is created around the market square and in the alleys of the old town. The 2026 edition runs from June 19th to 21st.
At wine stands, cozy wine taverns, and in the cellars of the old town, local vintners and neighboring wineries from the Tauber Valley serve their wines. Dry whites — Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner, Bacchus, Tauberschwarz — and Tauberfranken classics dominate the menu. The wine selection is complemented by culinary specialties from the region: Bratwurst and Steckerlfisch, regional cheeses, Tauber trout, Schäufele, and hearty farmer's dishes.
Over the three days, music, singing, dancing, and cultural performances shape the atmosphere. Local music clubs, cover bands, folk dance groups, and choirs perform — a diverse program that makes the connection between the wine festival and the regional cultural landscape visible. Concert stages are set up on the market square and in several squares of the old town.
The wine festival is not just for adults. On Saturday, there is a special family-friendly program with a children's flea market (children can sell their own toys, books, and clothes) and performances by the balloon artist Molli Ballon. Carousels, face painting, and hands-on activities complement the family program.
So that wine lovers can enjoy responsibly, the city provides a bus shuttle service, making it possible to travel to and from the festival without a car. This solution — established at many Tauberfranken wine festivals — aims to make the festival experience safe for travel.
Lauda-Königshofen was formed in 1975 from the merger of Lauda and Königshofen. With around 14,700 inhabitants, it is one of the larger towns in the Main-Tauber district, located at the transition from the Tauber Valley to the Hohenlohe plain. The town is situated in the Tauberfranken wine-growing region (Württemberg wine region) and is home to several renowned wineries. Tourist attractions include the historic old town of Lauda, the castle in Königshofen, and its location on the Tauber Valley Cycle Path.
