Summery wine enjoyment in the romantic courtyard of Neipperg Castle — Württemberg wines in the Heilbronn district
Schwaigern is located in the Heilbronn district in the state of Baden-Württemberg, in the heart of the Heuchelberg vineyards. The castle courtyard of Neipperg Castle, the ancestral seat of the Swabian noble family of the same name, opens its doors on two summer evenings a year for a summer wine event — Wein im Schlosshof. On July 17 and 18, 2026 (Friday and Saturday, 6 PM to 11 PM each day), the historic courtyard becomes a stage for wine enjoyment with the intimate atmosphere of a Renaissance castle.
The focus is on wines from two key players in the regional wine industry: the Graf Neipperg Winery, the castle's own winery with vineyards on the Heuchelberg slopes — known for typical Württemberg reds (Lemberger, Schwarzriesling, Trollinger) and for white wines like Riesling and Weißburgunder — and the Heuchelberg Weingärtner, the cooperative based in Schwaigern, which produces wines from the Heuchelberg communities. Tasting takes place in an open format at tasting stands; bottle sales are available on-site.
The courtyard of Neipperg Castle — a 16th-century Renaissance castle with towers, arcades, and a fountain — forms one of the most unusual event backdrops in the Württemberg wine region. High tables and seating are spread around the courtyard, subtly lit in the evening, showcasing the castle architecture as dusk falls. Live music (typically singer-songwriter, jazz trio, or small ensemble) provides the acoustic accompaniment. The event deliberately does not have the character of a large wine village, but rather that of an evening of enjoyment with a clearly defined setting.
Schwaigern, with about 11,500 inhabitants, is one of the most traditional Württemberg wine towns in the Heilbronn district. The town lies on the southern slope of the Heuchelberg, one of Württemberg's oldest wine-growing areas. Besides the Renaissance Neipperg Castle, the town parish church of St. Johannes with its late Gothic sculptures is worth seeing. Wein im Schlosshof complements the annual event program with an exclusive wine date that perfectly captures the region's identity — Württemberg wine in a historic setting.
The town of Schwaigern is organizing Wein im Schlosshof 2026 in its established format: two consecutive summer evenings in the courtyard of Neipperg Castle, each from 6 PM to 11 PM. The tasting stands of Heuchelberg Weingärtner and Graf Neipperg Winery are spread around the courtyard; tasting at the stand, bottle sales on-site.
Live music (typically singer-songwriter, jazz trio, or small ensemble) accompanies the summer evenings. Regional dishes — snack-style catering with sausage, cheese, and bread platters, Maultaschen, Flammkuchen — complete the offering. As dusk falls, the castle courtyard is showcased by subtle lighting; this creates one of the most atmospheric Württemberg wine events of the summer for Schwaigern.
