"Little Salzburg" — International Classical Festival in the Castle for over 50 years
The Weilburg Castle Concerts were founded in 1973 — and have since developed into one of Hesse's most renowned classical festivals. Over 50 years of history, international top artists, unique historical spaces: anyone who loves classical music knows the Weilburg Castle Concerts.
The nickname "Little Salzburg" is no coincidence. Similar to the Salzburg Festival, a historic residence is transformed into a stage for international classical top art. Weilburg Castle is a Renaissance and Baroque complex with five acoustically distinct concert halls, all used during the festival summer:
Between June 5 and August 8, 2026, around 45 concerts are scheduled — from large orchestras and chamber music to jazz, cabaret, and children's concerts. The artistic director is Stephan Schreckenberger.
The 53rd season opens on June 5, 2026, with the hr-Sinfonieorchester Frankfurt under the young French-British conductor Stephanie Childress. The soloist is the orchestra's principal clarinetist, Tomaž Močilnik. On the program: Mozart's late, warm Clarinet Concerto and Schumann's "Rhenish" 3rd Symphony.
A special feature of the Castle Concerts: the close cooperation with Hessischer Rundfunk (Hesse Broadcasting). Many concerts are recorded and broadcast on hr2 — the artists know they are not just playing for the audience.
Two months of classical music in the Renaissance and Baroque castle. Five performance spaces, around 45 concerts. From symphony orchestra to chamber music, plus concerts for children, matinees, jazz, and cabaret. Artistic direction: Stephan Schreckenberger.
