3rd edition “Future Next Door!” — 10 days of culture, music, and innovation on farms, in workshops, and living rooms, May 22–31, 2026
The Stadt-Land-Fluss-Festival (SLF for short) is an independent, grassroots-organized cultural festival in the Sieg Valley and the neighboring Westerwald. From Friday, May 22 to Sunday, May 31, 2026, the 3rd edition will take place with over 101 participants — spread over ten days in private gardens, on farms, in workshops, in living rooms, in forests, on meadows, and village squares. The motto “Future Next Door!” stands for the vision of using rural culture as a laboratory for social change.
The festival follows a distinct ethical-political orientation — the organizers state:
“resource-efficient, compatible with people and nature, socially and economically inclusive, anti-fascist.”
The model is the “Kulturelle Landpartie” (Cultural Countryside Tour) in Wendland, which has existed since the 1970s — a festival model that distributes art, music, and discourse events across private and rural locations, rather than centralizing them in one large venue.
The festival opens on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 6:00 PM, at Kulturhafen Au e.V. in Windeck-Au — with official greetings, a Balkan Brass Swing concert, and pizza. Main act of the opening: Mashrutka with “rousing grooves, wild offbeats, and danceable melodies between Balkan Brass, Gypsy Swing, and urban folk.” Further highlights of the first days: Tropica (Psychedelic Pop / Vintage), pottery workshops, field meditation with animals, theater productions, writing workshops, and culinary experiences.
The main venues are scattered across the region:
Windeck (around 18,000 inhabitants) is a municipality large in area in the southeastern Rhein-Sieg-Kreis (North Rhine-Westphalia), stretching along the Sieg River. The landscape at the transition from the Bergisches Land to the Westerwald is characterized by deeply cut valleys, forests, and small villages. The neighboring Westerwald (Rhineland-Palatinate) complements the festival area. The SLF Festival uses this rural, grassroots-organized region to test an alternative cultural model.
10 days of cultural festival modeled after the “Kulturelle Landpartie” (Cultural Countryside Tour) Wendland. Events take place in private gardens, farms, workshops, living rooms, and natural landscapes — deliberately decentralized, grassroots-oriented, and resource-efficient. Organizers: HeartWire and Kulturhafen Au e.V.
