37th Volks- und Heimatfest in Magdeburg's Ottersleben district
Magdeburg-Ottersleben is located in the south of the state capital of Saxony-Anhalt. It was formerly an independent municipality, incorporated in 1910, with a rural-bourgeois character. It has its own clubs, its own identity — and with the Ottersleber Volks- und Heimatfest, a district festival that is unique in Magdeburg. The event is organized by two clubs together: the Bürgerverein Bürger für Ottersleben e.V. and the Heimatverein Ottersleben e.V., a model of self-organization that has been functioning since the late 1980s.
The venue is the Knochenpark on Schwarzer Weg — a well-maintained green space in the middle of the district. A festival tent is set up here, along with an open-air stage, market stalls, and its own medieval market. Live music is provided by regional bands. The highlight every year is the potato peeling competition — a traditional Ottersleben discipline that focuses on speed, peeling thickness, and style. Family program with children's carousels, bouncy castle, and hands-on activities. Admission is completely free.
The 35th edition took place in 2024, the 36th in 2025 (from September 5th to 7th), and the 37th is planned for 2026 from September 4th to 6th — the club calendar confirms the date, and confirmation from the city of Magdeburg and Radio SAW also exists. State: Saxony-Anhalt, independent city Magdeburg (AGS 15003). Anyone who wants to experience Magdeburg's district culture beyond the big city festival weeks will find an authentic experience here.
The 2026 edition is listed as "planned" in the club calendar. The full program will be published in the weeks leading up to the festival date on buergerverein-ottersleben.de.
Detailed stage program for 2026 will be published on buergerverein-ottersleben.de.
