Advent weekend around St. Margaret's Church and in the Lutherhaus – arts and crafts, music, theatre, and Advent singing in the Märkisches Sauerland
Kierspe is a town of 16,000 inhabitants in the southern Märkischer Kreis, at the transition from the Sauerland to the Bergisches Land. The town is primarily known regionally for its plastics and lock industry – but in Advent, a different image comes to the fore: the Christmas market around St. Margaret's Church, organised in cooperation between the city and the Protestant Parish of Kierspe.
The Kierspe Christmas Market 2026 runs on Saturday, December 5th and Sunday, December 6th, 2026, around St. Margaret's Church on the church square and in the neighbouring Lutherhaus. Opening hours: Saturday 2:00 PM–10:00 PM, Sunday 12:00 PM–6:00 PM.
The character of the market is strongly shaped by the commitment of the clubs and the parish:
The Protestant St. Margaret's Church is a Gothic building from the 13th century, the landmark of Kierspe, and gives the market its name. In Advent, it is usually open until late in the evening, with Advent windows and quiet music. The neighbouring Lutherhaus, the community centre, houses the indoor stalls in case of rain and snow. This combination of church square, historic church building, and heated community hall is the special feature of the Kierspe Christmas market.
The market is centrally located in the Märkischer Kreis (registration plate MK), which includes towns such as Lüdenscheid, Iserlohn, Plettenberg, and Meinerzhagen. Kierspe is connected to Dortmund and Olpe via the A45 (Sauerland line). The location between the Sauerland and Bergisches Land brings a typically wooded low mountain range climate – snow is not uncommon in Advent, and the market is then particularly atmospheric.
The 2026 edition of the Kierspe Christmas Market takes place on the 2nd Advent weekend of 2026. The organisers are the City of Kierspe and the Protestant Parish of Kierspe together.
The complete 2026 stage programme will be published shortly before the date on kierspe.de and via the parish. Based on experience, the market follows this schedule:
Free entry. Food, drinks, and arts and crafts at the stalls payable in cash.
By car via the A45 (Kierspe exit) – about 5 minutes to the city centre. More difficult by train: Kierspe has a station on the RB52 (Volmetalbahn), Hagen–Lüdenscheid Brügge, arrive at the station and walk about 10 minutes to the church square.
Free parking at the town hall and in the city centre parking areas. If crowds are heavy, use Park-and-Walk from the school centre.
Free admission to the market. Food, drinks, and arts and crafts for purchase.
Stalls around St. Margaret's Church and in heated rooms of the Lutherhaus. Seating under patio heaters. Toilets in the Lutherhaus.
Saturday evening features the largest stage programme – big band and theatre. Sunday morning is quieter, ideal with small children: Advent singing, piano school, and tower climb fit well together. Those who arrive a little earlier at the Lutherhaus can view the better indoor stalls in peace.
