More than three decades of volleyball tradition on the Elbe
The Wittenberg Volleyball Summer dates back to the early 1990s and has developed over three decades into a fixture on the North German sports calendar. With the 33rd edition in 2026, SV Empor/Grün-Rot Wittenberge 1990 e.V. continues its work of continuously expanding the tournament – from a regional hobby tournament to a competition that attracts teams from all over Germany.
24 Beach Courts in the Ernst-Thälmann-Stadion
The Ernst-Thälmann-Stadion Wittenberge is transformed into a huge volleyball arena for the tournament: up to 24 beach courts are played simultaneously, in addition to indoor courts for the indoor competitions. SV Empor manages the logistics with a strong team of volunteers who prepare the stadium in the weeks leading up to the tournament.
Mixed Categories from Hobby to Regional League
The tournament is played in several mixed categories, ranging from hobby level to the regional league. This makes it one of the few beach volleyball events in Brandenburg that covers the entire spectrum between recreational and competitive sports. For the 30th edition in 2023, 58 teams from nine federal states competed in five performance classes – a level that is also expected in 2026.
The Prignitz Sparkassen Cup
Closely linked to the Volleyball Summer is the Prignitz Sparkassen Cup, which is held concurrently. The Sparkasse Prignitz has been the naming and main sponsor for years. Winners receive trophies, and the tournament concludes with a grand award ceremony in the stadium – followed by a beach party with a DJ and catering.
Wittenberge – Hanseatic City on the Elbe
Wittenberge is located in the Prignitz region in northwestern Brandenburg on the Elbe River, roughly halfway between Berlin and Hamburg. The town sees itself as a gateway to the Lenzen Elbe Valley and as a sports city – the stadium is a meeting point for regional clubs and a stage for major summer tournaments like the Volleyball Summer.
