Three days of art, cultural night, and Open Monument Day in the Selb-Rehau region
The Rehauer Kulturtage are the cultural highlight of the town of Rehau in the Hof district, state of Bavaria. The organizer is the municipal cultural department headed by Alexander Prechtl. The festival traditionally takes place on the second weekend in September and combines art exhibitions, concerts, city tours, a late-night shopping event, and the nationwide Open Monument Day into a packed cultural weekend.
Saturday is dedicated to the Kulturnacht, which begins at 6 PM. The Rehau city center will be festively illuminated, the Perlenbach will appear in atmospheric light, and the sculpture garden at the Kunsthaus Rehau will have its own special presentation. Three DJs, two live bands, and several small stages will provide music in the city. At the same time, retailers will open their doors for a late-night shopping event, supplemented by food and drink stands around Maxplatz.
Two central exhibition venues characterize the Kulturtage: The Kunsthaus Rehau is one of Upper Franconia's most distinguished exhibition spaces and presents special exhibitions of contemporary art during the Kulturtage. At the Altes Rathaus (Old Town Hall), two regional artists regularly present their works – in 2025, for example, Regina Saller with "Die Kraft der Elemente" and Simone Weiland with "Colorful".
Sunday traditionally coincides with the nationwide Tag des offenen Denkmals (Open Monument Day). Historic buildings in the Rehau city center – Old Town Hall, churches, former burgher houses – open their doors for guided tours. In addition, there is a brunch at the Fränkischer Hof with musical accompaniment (most recently by Hannes Wölfel) and a concert in the Kunsthaus Rehau in the afternoon.
As the headquarters of the world-renowned Rehau Group (plastics processing), Rehau is both an industrial and a cultural city. The Kulturtage embody this spirit by combining modern crafts, classical monument preservation, and urban conviviality into a joint program.
From September 18 to 20, 2026, the town of Rehau invites you again to the Kulturtage. The opening on Friday evening will feature an exhibition opening at the Old Town Hall and a chair concert at Maxplatz. Saturday is dedicated to the Kulturnacht: from 6 PM, the city center, Perlenbach, train station, and sculpture garden at the Kunsthaus will be specially illuminated. DJs and live bands will perform on several small stages, and retailers will open their shops for the late-night shopping event. Sunday is marked by the nationwide Open Monument Day with the opening of historic buildings and a Sunday brunch at the Fränkischer Hof.
Kulturnacht, Open Monument Day, and exhibitions are mostly freely accessible. Individual concerts have an admission fee of approximately 5-10 €. Food and drinks are available at stands around Maxplatz.
Rehau is located in the far northeast of Bavaria on the A 93 motorway between Hof and the Czech border. From Rehau train station (Hof - Eger/Cheb line), it's about a 10-minute walk to the city center. Parking is available around Maxplatz and the town hall.
Admission to the Kulturnacht and Open Monument Day is free. Concerts and some exhibitions may have an admission fee (5-10 €).
