The Old Town Hall — A Historic Festive Setting

The Old Town Hall of Kemnat — a district of Ostfildern in the Filder region near Stuttgart — is a historic half-timbered building in the town center. The main room with its old wooden beams, wide window sills, and special acoustics provides the ideal backdrop for a small, carefully curated craft market. In autumn and Advent, the house regularly transforms into a place for small cultural encounters.

Craftsmanship Instead of Mass-Produced Goods

What distinguishes the Kemnat Christmas market from large commercial Advent markets is the careful selection of exhibitors. Wood art, clay work, textile crafts, felt work, paper art, beekeeping products from the Filder region, regional vinegars and mustards, handmade soaps, small art paintings — all handmade, in small editions, personally made. You will find gifts here that you won't find anywhere else.

Kemnat Kindergarten Provides Catering

The Kemnat kindergarten takes care of the catering — a wonderful tradition. The educators, parents, and older children bake cakes, cook soups, and serve mulled wine and children's punch. The proceeds go directly to the kindergarten, funding materials, excursions, and special projects. This way, visiting the Christmas market supports the local children's community.

A Small, Fine Market

With approx. 20–25 exhibitors and the manageable space of the Old Town Hall, the market is small, fine, and focused. You don't have to cover several acres — in two hours, you'll have seen everything, visited all the exhibitors, and spoken personally with the craftspeople. This is a different Advent experience than the large Stuttgart Christmas market — quieter, more personal, more grounded.

Ostfildern-Kemnat — District in the Filder Region

Kemnat, with just over 5,000 inhabitants, is one of the four districts of Ostfildern — a town founded in 1975 in the Filder region southeast of Stuttgart. The village center of Kemnat has retained its village character with the Old Town Hall, parish church, and half-timbered houses. The S-Bahn connection to Stuttgart and its location on the edge of the Filder region make Kemnat easily accessible by public transport.

Weihnachtsmarkt Kemnat — edition 2026

The Handicraft Christmas Market in the Old Town Hall Kemnat runs on November 14 and 15, 2026, from 11 am to 5 pm each day. Advent Weekend Before the 1st Advent

The dates in 2026 (November 14–15) fall, as usual, on the weekend before the first Advent. This makes the market a kind of season opener before the major Stuttgart Advent markets. Exhibitors register in advance with Holger Preuß from the VHS Ostfildern.
