Live music above the clouds on the panoramic Wank mountain near Garmisch-Partenkirchen
Wank unplugged brings live music to one of Upper Bavaria's most spectacular venues: the summit plateau of the Wank, the so-called sun mountain of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. At around 1,780 meters altitude, below the Sonnenalm, visitors experience concerts against the backdrop of the Wetterstein Mountains and the Zugspitze – Germany's highest mountain.
Several bands perform each day over two days. The festival focuses on a carefully curated programme ranging from indie, German pop, singer-songwriter tunes, and alpine sound. Newcomers and established artists share the stage. The concerts begin in the afternoon, allowing the music to transition into the evening against the mountain panorama.
The organizer is Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG. Travel to the festival grounds is by the Wankbahn cable car, the ascent and descent of which are included in the ticket price. The valley station is at Wankbahnstraße 2 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.
Garmisch-Partenkirchen is located in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the Free State of Bavaria, in the heart of the Werdenfelser Land at the foot of the Zugspitze. The well-known winter and mountain sports resort is the starting point for numerous activities. Wank unplugged combines the mountain world with culture, turning the panoramic Wank mountain into a concert stage.
