Tradition in the Werdenfelser Land
The Partenkirchen Festival Week is one of the most important folk and customs festivals in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district (Upper Bavaria). The venue is the Schützenhaus (shooting lodge) on Wankbahnstraße, whose festival tent offers an impressive view of the mountain panorama of the Werdenfelser Land. The festival is supported by the Verkehrs- und Trachtenverein (VTV) Partenkirchen.
Ten Days of Tradition
For around ten days, Upper Bavarian tradition comes alive: In and around the festival tent, visitors can experience hearty brass music, energetic Schuhplattln, colourful costume parades, and living traditions of the Werdenfelser Land. In addition, there are classic festival attractions:
- Shooting range and marksmen's activities
- 'Hau den Lukas' and stone lifting (strength tests)
- Goaßlschnalzen (whip cracking)
- Delicacies and regional specialities
- Traditional music bands in the festival tent
Significance for the Region
The Festival Week, alongside the Garmisch Festival Week, is one of the two major festival weeks of the twin municipality of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and an integral part of the summer calendar in the Werdenfelser Land. It combines traditional costume culture, club life, and conviviality into an authentic Upper Bavarian folk festival at the foot of the Zugspitze.
