Pre-Christmas market in the Ehrenhof and Schlosshof of Herrenhausen Palace – five days, 130 exhibitors, historic ambiance
Herrenhausen Palace, originally built in the late 17th century for the Guelphic Electors, was completely destroyed in World War II. Reconstruction took place from 2010 to 2013 based on historical plans using modern materials. Today, the palace is a conference and event venue and home to the Herrenhausen Palace Museum, which presents the history of the Guelphs and the Herrenhausen Gardens. The Winterzauber uses the Ehrenhof in front of the palace and the Schlosshof between the building wings as the market area.
The Winterzauber is not designed as a large market with mass audiences, but as a curated market with a focus on quality. The approximately 130 exhibitors are selected based on criteria such as craftsmanship, originality, and suitable product range. Industrially produced mass goods are generally excluded.
The stalls offer:
The inner courtyards are festively illuminated, fir trees and fairy lights create the classic Advent market setting. The scent of gingerbread and mulled wine fills the area. Musicians perform on a small stage on selected evenings – mostly with Christmas-themed, contemplative repertoire.
With its date at the end of October and beginning of November, the Winterzauber Herrenhausen is one of the earliest Advent markets in the region. It thus avoids the main rush of the later Advent weeks and offers a more relaxed shopping experience than the large Christmas markets in December.
As in previous years, Winterzauber is designed as a curated market with a focus on quality. Exhibitors are vetted in advance by the market management. Industrially produced mass goods are not permitted; the emphasis is on craftsmanship and small manufacturers.
The exact exhibitor list and stage program will be published in the weeks leading up to the event on the official website.
